when summer time rolls around every year, i find my on again off again love affair with country music renewed. something about the sun, the water, and a laid back time of year makes me wanna crank up the volume on some of my old favorites. we have this running joke, the hubs & i, that he's a little bit country & i'm a little bit rock & roll.
the truth is more like he's a LOT country, and a little bit rock & roll, and i'm a LOT rock & roll, and a little bit country.
the point is, he is always excited each year when this 'mood' strikes me. if he's not listening to country on the radio, it's classic rock. i however, shuffle between just about everything under the sun while he's in the car with me.. and let's just say he's not a big fan of bands like muse, or bruno mars, or pink (but he knows what's good for him, and leaves the dial alone! :)
i've had the music cranked up during homework, cleaning house, and just in general these days, and i thought i'd share some songs i'm digging right now, the country ones.
crank up the volume & have an impromptu dance party.
it'll make ya feel better.
just sayin'.

music monday: mumford & sons
it was hard to narrow down a song & video to share this week!
i am such a music lover (like a TON of people, duh.).
i couldn't make it through the day without spotify or itunes or the radio.
music gets me up and moving, or helps me make sense of the crazy noise in my head.
this weeks selection is a feel good tune from the new mumford & sons album babel.
it's called 'i will wait'.
this video is live at red rocks, and it has this crazy good vibe.
perfect way to motivate you on monday ;)
happy monday!

music monday: bruno mars
i've decided to try and persuade myself to get back into blogging.
i've been blogging since 2006, and it seems to ebb & flow, this blogging drive.
i reinvented my blog in 2010, intent on providing craft tutorials & recipes.
convinced i wanted to be apart of mommy-bloggers everywhere.
but the truth is.. i'm not a mommy blogger.
and i can't afford to do a craft every week.
i don't always have great things to say.
i sometimes repeat the same meals over & over every week much to my husband's dismay.
and since there is facebook, and instagram, and project life...
sometimes i feel like i'm repeating the same things soo many times, i get bored.
i get bored easy sometimes.
and especially since project life has come into my life i feel like if i don't spend every free moment on that
i'm incredibly behind.
i have HIGH hopes of being caught up by the end of the year.
at 20 something weeks behind.. i better get a move on it.
but i have decided to implement a schedule for myself..
because i seem to do better when i have one.
project life, cleaning, blogging, etc.
so here goes nothing.
no promises.. just good intentions.
mondays will be music mondays..
because it's easy to post a video, type a few lines & get on with my day.
so here's my first music monday video.
bruno mars: locked out of heaven.
saw it on SNL & fell instantly in love.
if you like it, you should google his SNL performance.
his band is awesome. a throw back to the big brass bands of the 50s & 60s.
AWESOME.
happy monday!

music: maroon 5 overexposed
i'm one of those people who never seems to fall in love with an entire album.
ok.. not unless it's a dave matthews band album.
then i'm desperately in love.
this new maroon 5 album, overexposed.....
i swear it's like they had a window into my heart the last few months.
E V E R Y. S I N G L E. S O N G. I S. A W E S O M E.
and while they don't EXACTLY apply to me.. i just connected to this one song.
it's sad, but damn it's hauntingly beautiful.
it'll be connected to an event in my memory forever..
and while it makes me sad... it somehow gives me hope.
that sounds crazy.. i know, but it's so true.
(one day maybe i can elaborate)
sad-maroon 5.
hope you have something fun up your sleeve this weekend..

working on some other posts.. i know, i know.. you are so tired of hearing this.. right?
ah. it's life. :)
listening: emily anderson's play list. seriously. over and over and over again. it's like the perfect magical october soundtrack. moody & wonderful. i made my own playlist to share :) i didn't plan on loving the song 'give in to me' from the movie country strong as much as a did... but it almost breaks my heart it's so amazing!

watching: the new girl. american horror story. vampire diaries. glee. i don't know that i've ever been glued to this many shows. ever. i heart zooey deschanel in the new girl. american horror story is strange and i can't stop watching it, it's like the scary movie that doesn't end. vampire diaries. ya.. do i have to elaborate? and glee. i can't get enough. i'm only sad true blood is over until next year :(
reading: the crowning glory of calla lily ponder. yessssss. still. i find that i'm having to really MAKE the time to read. & it's moving slowly for me..
obsessing: halloween decorations. a recipe binder. making jewelry & eliminating processed foods & chemical cleaners from my house. (more on that soon) pinterest. redecorating my home.
stressing: my house is never clean. i don't know why.. i'm home & i feel like i'm always cleaning. oh wait. i have kids. and a husband who refuses to kick his boots off at the door. christmas presents. i don't want to overload my tree with thoughtless manufactured presents.. i'd like to have a happy balance & give to those in need as well as have some handmade gifts sprinkled around.
baking or making: red velvet cookies. oreo truffles. rice crispies cupcakes. chocolate covered marshmallows. honey beer bread. garlic cheese biscuits. coffee cake muffins. honey oatmeal sandwich bread. chocolate muffins. peanut butter honey energy balls... i think that's it... :)
wanting: a pedicure. the kindle fire. to read the next book in the black dagger brotherhood. to go to the movies & eat sushi on my birthday. just a few new scrapbooking supplies.. it's been MORE than a year since i've added to my stash, i think i'm due :) & a style injection.
looking forward to: a visit to the pumpkin patch. the carnival. halloween. more soccer games. release of the breaking dawn soundtrack. breaking dawn. hand making gifts for loved ones. a fall thankful journal (can't wait to elaborate! :)
loving: pw's iced coffee recipe, paired with homemade vanilla syrup. soccer. reading scary stories to tell in the dark with the dude. spending my days with the babe.

i'm desperately trying to get back to blogging regularly.
and get back to blogging crafts..
but first i gotta get back INTO the crafting!
until then, and maybe even after then..
i thought i'd do some currents a la tina azmus.
i always enjoy her lists, as well as vee jennings.
i wanted to include pictures & links this time..
but next time.. i may post channeling my friend andrea (aka retrohipmama)
(i just super puffy heart her hand written charts & lists!)
watching: true blood. i'm 2 episodes behind. it's a sin, i know, but summer bedtimes & daytime company have made it difficult to keep up. i'm just trying to savor the sookie/eric screen time.. :)
obsessing over: tattoos. evidence? my pinterest board 'inked'. all it took was one word from the bf about getting a new one & i was reminded that i think 3 is not nearly enough. please don't judge. i would totally rock a huge visible piece if i thought my job future wouldn't be affected by it. (not that i know what said future is.. )
reading: the crowning glory of calla lily ponder. picked it up on a whim while @ sams club this weekend. i needed something to hold me over until i get my hands on the next black dagger book & rebecca wells is a favorite author (divine secrets of the ya ya sisterhood) ... and i can't seem to get myself into the davinci code just now..
laughing at: the mommy therapy. found it through a daily read & have tracked backed through entries & nearly cried all over my laptop laughing so hard. leslie is hilarious & real. a stay at home mom. someone who doesn't make me feel less than real if i have a bad day where i daydream about doing something more glamorous than changing poopy diapers & arguing over why you can't cover your baby brother up with a blanket & drag him around on the floor like a sack of potatoes.
contemplating: dip dyed hair or peekaboo highlights. i'm totally jonesing... but putting it off until winter. between chlorine & the sun i'm thinking it wouldn't last long in the summer.. plus i'm a little chicken. i'm confident my mom will hate it, my brother, the lawyer, will claim the adult version of 'mom kristy's rebelling' like he did when i got my tongue pierced (yes. i did that. a lifetime & two kids ago), and the hubs may kick me out of the house. (i kid. i hope.)
on repeat:

craving: nutella. want to try these nutella cookies
looking forward to: halloween crafts. shopping for supplies for rance's 1st birthday & it's torture to pass up all the spooky halloween decor! PLUS new seasons of glee & vampire diaries!
playing: lots of uno.
hoping to have some looongg overdue crafting posts up later this week...
